Appetizer Recipe: Parmigiano Reggiano Crackers

These cheese crackers are so easy to make and so good. Bring them to your next dinner party or potluck and they will be the star of the show. Pair them with different items and you can make them savory or sweet!

These crackers offer serious bang for your buck. You need 30 minutes, an oven, and some grated Parmigiano Reggiano...and you have a healthy snack that everyone will love. Throw in some accompaniments like fruit or veggies, and you have a full appetizer.

Step 1: Grate the Parmigiano Reggiano

If you want to spend some time strengthening those upper arms muscles, buy a block of Parm and grate what you need. Otherwise, check out our pre-grated options!

While grating, go ahead and get your baking sheet out and pre-heat the oven to 425F.

Step 2: Create the Mounds

Place parchment paper on the baking sheet. Then form mounds with the grated parm that are about 1.5-2 inches in diameter. They don't have to be perfect, but they need to be somewhat consolidated so you get a solid crackers that won't break apart. Maintain about 1 inch of distance in between them.

Step 3: Bake and Prepare the Accompaniments

The crackers take very little time- another reason why we love them. For softer, chewier crackers, cook them for 7 minutes. For crispier crackers, keep them in for 10 minutes. Just remember that they will continue to harden during the cooling process so you don't want to leave them in for too long.

If you are just cooking these a independent snacks, you can enjoy a few extra minutes of quiet. If these crackers will form the basis of a platter, go ahead and get your items together.

Step 4: Cool the Parmigiano Reggiano Crackers

After they come out of the oven, they need to cool. If you have the time, let them cool on their own while you finish making the platter or doing something else. If you are short on time, transfer the crackers to the freezer and speed up the process.

Once they are cool, place them in a fun bowl or basket and enjoy!
